Born Again Mac User Show

(http://www.thedigitalmediadude.com/2008/03/07/confession-4-gabe-taviano-web-designer/)This show, although the religious title is just a spin-off, invited Gabe to recently come on for a fun interview. Click here to listen now (http://www.thedigitalmediadude.com/2008/03/07/confession-4-gabe-taviano-web-designer) (interview starts at 11:00)! The hosts, aka Rabbi Marcelo and Reverend John , have a fun time digging into the stories of how folks like Gabe made the switch to the Mac. You'll enjoy the pledge that they force their guests to make, as well as some very good reasons to think about switching if you haven't already. Thanks to Marcelo and John for the invite and interview!

Compassion sent the group off yesterday to blog about their experience while there, and after 30 hours of travel the stories, videos and pictures are now coming in. You may follow the Uganda blog here (http://blog.compassion.com), or visit this page (http://www.compassion.com/share/uganda-blog.htm) to see a list of all of the individual's blogs and follower their stories specifically.
New iPhone ads

Apple launched two new iPhone television ads (http://www.apple.com/iphone/ads/ad16/) today which seem to target the how to questions for new purchasers. The new ads feature the Facebook web app and using Safari to browse the web (researching car info as the example). Lee (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=749507165) and I (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=697101783) both use the Facebook app quite, and I believe we're close to seeing many quality apps like this developed using the SDK by third-parties very soon. It's interesting that Apple has switched from the ads about individuals (pilots, musicians, artists, etc.) to these that are more of an informational style. The Cars ad does a decent job of showing the web browsing functionality in Safari, with drop-down menus and the things we take for granted on the computers.

To Air is human

Just returned from the Apple store this evening, and the MacBook Air (http://www.apple.com/macbookair) (pictured on top of the MacBook) really does seem like a great laptop! I was really shocked at how large the touchpad is, and how much it responds like the screen on the iPhone. One thing I did learn from a friend at the store is that it is well worth it to purchase the optional optical drive (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?spart=MB397G%2FA) . He mentioned a Leopard install taking over 3 hours via another computer's optical drive on the network, compared to maybe 45 minutes using the optional drive for the Air. For some fun, check out the teardown photos of the Air over here at MacNN (http://www.macnn.com/articles/08/02/01/macbook.air.teardown) , courtesy of iFixit (http://www.ifixit.com) .

From an Apple boardroom in 2006 and 200 engineers on the task, we're sure you'll enjoy reading this story (http://www.wired.com/gadgets/wireless/magazine/16-02/ff_iphone?currentPage=1) WIRED magazine has released in their most recent issue. It's always fun to hear how large projects like the iPhone get started, but even better to see the impact this device is having on the industry. If you like the photo in this blog post, it and three others are now available as wallpapers in our downloads section of the site (downloads/wallpapers.html) for both the Mac and the PC. If you own an iPhone, be sure to visit our site built specifically for the iPhone at www.GodsMac.com/iphone (iphone). We'll be back soon with episode 37!

We've got some good news for those of you with an iPhone or iPod Touch! All of our podcast episodes are now available on a customized web app (small site) just for you. We're thrilled that Apple has listed the web app in their directory as well! We've already started hearing from new listeners via that location. You must have either of these devices to correctly view the web app (on regular computers or other devices the buttons are not displayed and every other episode that is coded differently is white and seems invisible). The Apple Development Center was of great assistance in providing custom style sheets and code to make this possible. We also have a new episode coming out very soon, with some thrilling news and additions to the podcast. Thanks to our dedicated audience and network of friends!Available using iPhone - www.GodsMac.com/iphone (iphone) And be sure to check out the other great apps available at www.apple.com/webapps (http://www.apple.com/webapps) (God's Mac is located in the News category)

Nick shares from Iraq

I work at the Apple store in Birmingham, AL but I also have worked at the one in Cincinnati, OH. Currently, I am deployed to Iraq, so I am on leave away from Apple. I'll be here until the summer. It's...well, Iraq. Not quite what you see in the news, though.Christians don't get what we do. I used to have people argue with me in theology classes about the wrongness of war. Then I come here and see the brokenness of this place. And I want to fix it. Thing is, you can't have surgery without a scapel. And no matter how much it hurts, some of us have to be the scalpel. Even if other Christians don't understand. But that makes it hard. War is not the Christ like thing to do. But we have a duty to do. I'm glad the God of Abraham is big enough to get that, and no matter how confused I get, He doesn't.There's a lot of stuff to be telling people. I mean, it's hard. CNN paints a picture of all this bad stuff going down. All the people dying. All the Soldiers who don't want to be here. Well, let's think about this in a couple ways. How many people have died? Around 3-4 thousand...since Afghanistan started? I think I'm more likely to get murdered in LA, Chicago, or any other major city. It's not Vietnam here, it's not a quagmire. It just takes time. We eat at Burger King way too much. (You're way right away), we drive 100 MPH on the high way, we have DSL and instant oil changes. (if on homepage - click to read more below)

Hasta La Vista Mom and Dad

Governor Schwarzeneggar of California has passed a bill that has banned the use of the terms Mom and Dad and Husband and Wife from the public schools in their state. He has also authorized boys and girls to use bathrooms of the opposite sex, in an effort to please those who consider themselves homosexual. Please read more from WorldNetDaily here (http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=58130) . We'd love to hear from the parents of children that are in these schools. If you have friends or family in this situation feel free to request that they leave feedback here or contact us directly. And it seems odd that the state is literally up in flames?

We allow the Iranian president (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - on the right) to speak at Columbia University and the UN earlier this week, and days later he shows that he's doing nothing but playing games with the world. He's pictured here with another individual that despises the United States, president of Venezuela - Hugo Chavez. It's interesting to see such hatred against both our country and Israel becoming a usual occurence these days. Feel free to read more on the events of the past few days by following the included links. President Bush invited to speak in Iran (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298424,00.html) / Chavez welcome Iranian president (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298402,00.html).
Apple update disables unlocked iPhones

It wasn't just a rumor. Apple warned customers early this week that unlocked iPhones may become inoperable. “Apple has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs available on the Internet cause irreparable damage to the iPhone’s software, which will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed,” the company said in a statement.
iPhone meet God's Mac

We had a great time hanging out with the hundreds in line waiting for the 6 pm launch of the iPhone today. We thought we'd post a few pictures below so you can observe the new owners with us, lol.It was exciting to hang out at the store late tonight and actually use one of the devices, which I must say exceeded my expectations. I was able to surf the web (as you can see in the pic to the left), make phone calls (from a California number of course), and everything else the hype has built up for us. Congratulations to Apple on a successful iDay!Check out some photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/godsmac/sets/72157600560658915/) we shot of iDay in Columbus, OH

The Garrett family wins - video

Tommy and Martha Garrett are frequent listeners and friends of our podcast. Back in episode 25 we approached our listeners and requested that they visit the Room2Bloom contest on the website of the Courier Press in Evansville, IN (their hometown). During the next few weeks our community, as you will hear in the video, played a big role in helping the Garretts win the grand prize! Check out the video below to hear from them, as well as a look at the before and after footage of their newly landscaped area. Thanks to you listeners, including the Garretts for allowing technology to meet eternity.......praise the Lord! http://www.godsmac.com/videos/marthacontest.flv

Welcome to the new site!

We decided to try to provide listeners and visitors with a site that features much more content and offers a better sense of community, so here it is! By signing up to be a member of the site, you get access to commenting here and also posting on the God's Mac Forum, as well as having the choice to opt-in and receive God's Mac News via email each week. Our Friends section is probably the next biggest reason we created this new site. We will update that frequently with a broad range of websites that we want you to be aware of, and you have the opportunity to submit requested sites to each of the categories there. It's our desire that this will eventually grow to be the strongest listing of Christian websites on the internet! We will keep you updated with blog postings and episodes (both interspersed on the front page, and also available using their respective menu links), so please check back often! We'd love to hear from you! Drop us an email (index.php?option=com_contact Itemid=3) or leave us a comment at 614.259.1598!
