Frenzic comes to the iPhone

FrenzicTouch.png

Iconfactory does it again with Frenzic Touch! Here’s yet another reason to never set your iPhone down and not get any work done… ever! I’m fairly addicted to Frenzic on the Mac, now it’s on the iPhone? CRAP! Well… It’s only $4.99 in the App Store and well worth it! (if you don’t mind not sleeping). This app is a perfect iPhone App. Much better on iPhone or Touch than on the Mac (who likes moving a mouse and clicking on stuff anyway?)

Review: Live Interior 3D

One of the things I like to do is find software that makes a difficult task much easier. Some software can do just the opposite, but there are certain things that I just have no idea on where to begin. One of those is any type of interior design or remodeling project. It’s just something that I have no idea where even to start.

Ironically, I have been wanting to redesign the interior of my home office, but I just end up staring at the wall and realizing that I have zero ideas. Luckily, I came across Live Interior 3D from Belight Software and I just had to give it a try. Will it let a complete beginner in interior design get a workable and realistic idea on how to redesign a room? We will see. [Continued]

Belkin lends the switcher a hand (sort of)

Recently Belkin released news about a new cable to hit the market. They lovingly call it the PC-to-Mac Transfer Kit. So you too can switch from your crusty old PC to a spiffy new Mac easily with this $50 cable from Belkin.

Realistically, a simple USB drive would suffice, or even a little nicely worded question to the genius at the Apple store (or about 10 or so other fairly simple migration methods). However, if you are looking for a simple way, have an extra $50 bucks burning a hole in your pocket and like plugging things in, this nifty little gizmo is right up your alley.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s cool and all, but a quick google search and some patience will get the job done too. I’m just saying…

Ask iBAM: iDisk and iPhone

The iBAM crew received an e-mail from Carolyn asking:

“Do you guys know if a Mac user with an iPhone can access their iDisk?
Of is that just from a Mac computer?”

This is  a really great question, but it also falls into the “yes and no” category of answers.  You can access your iDisk through Safari (http://idisk.mac.com/username) on the iPhone, but all you can do from there is see the list of files that are there.  You can’t download or do anything else with them.

However, I did come across one solution which was just released and that is the A.I. Disk application for the iPhone.  From the developers site:

A.I.Disk is an elegant solution to access files on your MobileMe iDisk, save them to the iPhone or iPod Touch, read on the go and even email to friends. Besides MobileMe iDisk the application can connect to any WebDAV enabled online file storage like Box.Net or MyDisk.se.

A.I.Disk has built-in file viever that supports number of formats including MS Office and iWork documents, PDF, TXT, HTML and others. Just tap on a file to copy it to your iPhone or iPod Touch file storage device and enjoy reading it anywhere!

The app is $7.99 and can be found in the App Store in iTunes.  Although I haven’t had a chance to personally try it out, it sounds like the only solution thus far.

Upgrading Your MacBook

This is a guest article by Emma Best from laptopical.com, where they review the best laptop computers and write unbiased Mac book reviews .

Now that the new MacBooks are out just getting a new one might just be too tempting, but if you decide on keeping your old one there are a couple of upgrades you can do on the already powerful Intel MacBook.

What Can Be Upgraded on My MacBook?

Since Apple moved to Intel hardware, the inside of a MacBook is very similar to the inside of any Windows-based laptop. Most of the components follow industry standards, and there’s no need to buy special components that are “designed for Mac” – this is just a gimmick as far as the interior workings of your laptop are concerned. Components you can upgrade with standard replacements include RAM memory and hard drive. Both of these are located under the battery slot underneath your laptop.

Upgrading the Hard Drive

The hard drive is often the weakest link in a laptop, and you can gain a significant performance boost by upgrading it to a faster hard drive or a solid state drive (SSD). Getting more storage space is also a huge advantage of course, as it allows you to store more music, movies, games and other applications.

The MacBook uses regular 2.5” (laptop size) serial-ATA hard drives that you can buy at almost any computer retailer. Before you replace the drive, make sure you backup all of the content on your current drive.

Upgrading RAM

Most laptops including the MacBook only have two memory slots, and upgrading the amount of RAM memory often means that you unfortunately have to replace both of the memory modules. Newer MacBooks can handle up to 4 GB of RAM, and the modules you need are called DDR2 SO-DIMM (note: the latest aluminum MacBooks use DDR3). In order to max out your RAM you need 2 sticks of 2 GB each.

Be Careful

If you have little to no experience with computers, let a professional handle all of your upgrades.
